[As the hot spring area shrinks]

Pivotal Axis in the Jiaoxi Hot Springs Network
Tangweigou Park, suffers from an obscured entrance, overshadowed by an amalgamation of structures and signage. The hot spring, an invaluable natural asset, finds itself encircled by a recent influx of buildings and hotels, a development that has effectively eclipsed the view of the distant mountains.

Concrete Texture Model

The phenomenon of hot springs leaving different traces on stone due to their materials, temperature, and the duration of exposure. Using the texture of sandstone, to employ sampling techniques to extract design elements, thereby using the stone’s materiality as a medium to chronicle thermal variations.

Transform Visitors’ Visual Perspectives

My design initiates with the introduction of a distinctive structure within this lively thoroughfare, delineating the inception of the hot spring experience. Through the structures I have envisioned, my objective is to guide their sightlines to different elevations and vistas within the hot spring environment.Observing the cross-section of Tangweigou, one notices that the hot spring’s warmth originates from the left, with subsurface temperatures gradually diminishing in a stratified manner towards the right. By embedding a series of nodes within the stone walls, these become the chroniclers of change, where, over time, these walls will accumulate traces that reveal the underlying temperature variations.

Thermal Landscape

As visitors tread barefoot upon the ground, a shift in texture underfoot signals their passage into a new realm. Above, apertures do more than simply usher in daylight; they transform into cascades during rainfall, weaving water curtains that descend to meet the pools below—a liminal space distinct from the hot springs. To the right, the design deliberately channels hot spring water to cascade downward, sculpting a wall whose surface evolves with the passage of time.
